Advocate Program | Helpful Information

Saint Louis County annually contracts with several individuals who have experience in real estate to help residential property owners navigate the property assessment appeal process (real estate assessments only).

This program is part of an effort to make sure residents realize their rights, take best advantage of the process, and experience Saint Louis County’s customer friendly government attitude.

Please note: The Advocate program is only in session during the appeal season, which generally runs between June and September. For details please refer to the Board of Equalization’s web page:

Property Owner Advocate is available to:
  • Discuss your particular situation.
  • Suggest options and appeal strategies.
  • Assist in organizing evidence.
  • Confirm appeal deadlines.
  • Accompany you to hearings.
Property Owner Advocate cannot:
  • Make determinations of value.
  • Represent you at hearings.
  • Change the laws and ordinances governing reassessments and taxes.
How to contact a Property Owner Advocate:
  • Request that an Advocate contact you when you call the Assessor’s Office at 314-615-4230; or
  • Call the Advocate Hotline directly at 314-615-4611 and leave your information. You also have the "zero out" option to speak with someone in the Assessor's office; or
  • Send an email to [email protected].
Be sure to provide the following information when requesting assistance:
  • Your name
  • Property address with zip code
  • Property locator number (if known)
  • All phone numbers where an Advocate can reach you
  • Best time to call you
