St. Louis County Animal Care and Control - Microchipping Your Pet

Saint Louis County Animal Care & Control is holding a microchipping event on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the animal shelter 10521 Baur Blvd. Olivette, MO 63132.

Microchipping is a safe, simple and painless procedure. An animal caregiver will use a needle to insert a microchip between the animal’s shoulder blades, while another caregiver calms the animal. The procedure can be done in a matter of seconds.

Each microchip contains a registration number and the phone number of the registry for the particular brand of chip. A handheld scanner reads the radio frequency of the chip and displays this information. An animal shelter or vet clinic that finds your pet can contact the registry to get your name and phone number.

Animal Care & Control (ACC) will microchip your pet at no charge to you, but you are responsible for registering the chip. ACC uses a microchip company, Avid. Avid charges $19.95 to register the chip. A credit or debit card is necessary..
