St. Louis County Teams with Siteman Cancer Center for Mobile Mammograms

Thanks to the generosity of Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine and Susan G. Komen Missouri, St. Louis County’s Office of Community Empowerment is coordinating mammograms for women ages 40 and over at Feed My People in South County on Wednesday, August 15. Appointments begin at 9am and conclude at 2pm. Mammograms are available at no cost to women without health insurance.

“Community Empowerment’s main purpose is to marshal resources where they are needed most,” County Executive Steve Stenger said. “Thanks to Siteman Cancer Center, Washington University School of Medicine and Komen, cancer screenings will be offered to women who otherwise may not have access to these services.”

Siteman’s mobile mammography van uses state-of-the-art digital equipment that emits the lowest possible radiation dose. Each exam takes about 20 minutes, and results are reported to the patient within seven to 10 days.
