The St. Louis County Police Department would like to remind all citizens that National Night Out will be held this year on Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Millions of citizens across the country will join together in support of crime and drug prevention programs. This event has additionally been designed to generate participation in anti-crime efforts and strengthen the communication between police and the citizens they serve. This year, over 50 neighborhoods in St. Louis County will be hosting National Night Out events. This is a credit to our citizens who not only support the St. Louis County Police Department, but also recognize the opportunity to strengthen neighborhood spirit, sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. "National Night Out serves as a visible reminder to would-be criminals that law abiding citizens and police are united in their efforts to reduce crime," advised Chief Tim Fitch. "Like Neighborhood Watch, this yearly event presents a great opportunity for all neighbors to introduce themselves to each other and to the men and women who serve and protect them."
