The St. Louis County Police Department Reaches Out to Community via Twitter and Facebook

For Immediate Release 17-Jun-2009

The St. Louis County Police Department's Community Action Team is working hard to keep the citizens updated on police related issues that involve their neighborhoods. In order to reach more of our citizens, the Community Action Team launched Twitter and Facebook sites as another avenue to stay connected with the community. We hope to reach new demographics and increase awareness among our residents. The Community Action Team is now Tweeting and updating Facebook with important safety messages and alerts, updates about police activity, neighborhood watch meetings, crime trends and suspect descriptions, as well as news and information about the Department's various projects in the community.

With Twitter and Facebook, the message can be shared as quickly as the information is posted and can be sent to a cell phone in the form of a text message. St. Louis County Police hope to expand this outreach method in the future to engage the public and build relationships with residents.

You can follow our Twitter feeds at twitter.com/stlouiscountypd or on Facebook by searching St. Louis County Police. This medium of communication will not replace any other methods of communication currently being used by the St. Louis County Police Department.

"I commend our Community Action Team for taking this progressive step to adapt and expand in the 21st Century," stated Chief Tim Fitch. "This technology will allow us to quickly disperse critical information to as many of our citizens as possible, enabling the Police Department to better serve them."
