I-64 Connection Sub-Committee

The New I-64 Connection Sub-Committee on traffic mitigation has been formed by MoDOT and County Executive Charlie Dooley to follow up on the work of its close cousin, St. Louis County's I-64 Regional Traffic Management Plan Task Force.
Connection Sub-Committee include representatives from the County's Department of Highways and Traffic and, most importantly, officials from municipalities along I-64 whose residents and business owners will shoulder the heaviest traffic burden once the Missouri Department of Transportation launches its improvement project next year.
Together, sub-committee members will develop strategies to ensure that motor vehicles diverted by The New I-64 will flow as quickly as possible through all alternate routes.
Their efforts will be tracked on this site as a "work in progress." The group will meet on the second Thursday of every month.
"It's a matter of not what we do but what we don't do that could harm us," explained Garry W. Earls, director of the County's Department of Highways and Traffic, at the committee's first meeting September 14. "We're going to have to link arms as a community."
Committee members are expected to closely look at all possible methods of enhancing the flow of diverted traffic, and to implement the most viable of those solutions prior to the start of The New I-64 construction.
"We want to eliminate traffic flow constraints wherever possible," continued Earls, who was appointed by County Executive Dooley to lead the Connection Committee and to provide staff support for its work. "The little things will add up, whether we're speaking of parking restrictions, employee flex time or utilizing existing shoulders for driving lanes. It's our responsibility to make sure we look at every possible measure to get the community through this."
