Materials Testing
The work performed by the Materials Testing Section assures that materials used in contract construction projects, new subdivision street construction and by the Operations Division forces meet the standards of quality established by the Department. The Section also performs construction product research and testing and specification writing.
The Materials Testing Laboratory is accredited by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) in the area of Portland Cement Concrete Testing, Hot Mix Asphalt Aggregate, Portland Cement Concrete Aggregate and Soil. These accreditations are maintained through proficiency testing and bi-annual inspections by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the AASHTO Material Reference Laboratory (AMRL).
The Laboratory offers various testing services to Saint Louis County municipalities on an "at cost" basis. These services are offered to these agencies to allow monitoring of the quality of material incorporated into their projects.
