The Design Division is responsible for advancing various types of projects from conception to letting for construction. These projects consist of roadway improvements, arterial road rehabilitation, sidewalks, bridges, traffic signals, retaining walls, storm sewers, and other miscellaneous projects. Additional activities include supporting the Planning Division with the preparation of Concept Plans, attending public forums and hearings, and meeting with elected officials, community leaders and residents.

The Division is organized into five main sections as follows:

• Bridges - bridge design and plan review, bridge inspection, bridge ratings and inventory.
• Consultant Plan Review - review project plans submitted by engineering consultants.
• In-House Design - prepare project plans and specifications using staff engineers.
• Traffic Signals - prepare and review signal plans, striping and intersection geometric.
• Right-of-Way - acquire right-of-way and easements required to construct projects.
